Dr Linda Papadopoulos

Finally it’s happened.

Finally the government have started opening their eyes to the detrimental effect that unregulated media can have.

Day after day, our minds and hearts are exposed to a flood of cultural images. Most people don’t stop to think about the subconscious effect these images are having – the messages they are offering and that we are innocently taking on board.

The world of media is such a powerful parent. Not only does it groom the perceptions of young children, but of young adults, parents and older people alike. For so many years we have fallen victim to it.

But thanks to Dr Linda Papadopoulos, hopefully things are about to change. Her report calls for much tougher regulation of the sexual images used in the fashion industry, mags lads and music videos, saying that there is a clear link between sexualized imagery used and violence towards females as well as distorted perceptions in young teenagers about how they are viewed sexually.

It’s ridiculous that it’s taken this long for anyone to start noticing what’s going on. Hopefully this report will be the first to start pulling up the “paradigm creators” that have wielded so much power in our culture over the years.

You never know, maybe next someone will write a report around anorexic celebrities that are offered to our children and young people as role models for femininity. Linda? Are you there?

  1. I often wonder how so many people are unaware of the media manipulation. I look around and I wonder how we are going to survive this propaganda of labeling people using sexualized imagery and forcing us to agree on whatever they determine as “agreeable”.
I hope more people will stress the point and show us that we don’t have to be manipulated by the unregulated media.
